ADASA supplies early warning system to predict extreme weather events in Gabon, Africa

Barcelona, Spain and Gabon, Africa

The Republic of Gabon, located on the west coast of Central Africa is becoming increasingly vulnerable to weather changes. The situation makes it essential for the government to understand the impact of extreme weather events. Establishing a robust and effective warning system has required national institutions to improve their meteorological, climate and hydrological monitoring networks. Adasa’s mission includes the installation of six Automatic Synoptic Weather Stations in Gabon and the training of local and national weather experts for the interpretation of data to inform their decisions. This will enhance the collection and storage of climate data by the NMS, providing better weather forecasts in the country based on strengthened data analytics capabilities. Communities will better understand their vulnerabilities, increasing their capacity for adaptation and resilience given the expected impacts of climate change.
